A horizontal line building block lets you add a visual divider to a guide step. Horizontal lines help separate sections of content, making guides easier to read and scan.
You can use horizontal lines to organize information, break up long sections of text, or visually separate groups of building blocks within a guide step.
For an overview of all building blocks, see Guide building blocks overview.
Prerequisites
To add a building block to a guide, you must have permission to create or edit guides.
Add a horizontal line
You can add a horizontal line to a guide step using building blocks. To do this:
- Go to Guides.
- Open the guide you want to edit.
- Select Edit in my app to open the Visual Design Studio.
- Select View steps, then choose the step you want to edit.
- Hover over the step you'd like to edit and select Edit step. If the step is blank, Click to Add Content.
- To add a building block above or below an existing block, hover over the location where you want to add the block and select the Add Row plus (+) icon that appears.
- To add a text, button, or image building block to the left or right of an existing building block, hover over the building block and select the Add Column plus (+) icon that appears. You can edit the width of building block columns.
- Select Horizontal Line from Add Building Block menu.
Edit horizontal line style
When you add a horizontal line to your guide, the Edit Horizontal Line window opens.
- If you choose Horizontal Line from the Horizontal Line Style dropdown menu, the styling for the line defaults to the styling defined in the guide theme.
- If you choose Custom from the Horizontal Line Style dropdown menu, you can edit the style of the line.
Custom overrides the guide theme and thus allows you to edit the following Line styles:
- Color. Allows you to choose a different color for the line, set with a hexadecimal, RGB numbers, visual color selector, or color slider.
- Thickness. Allows you to set the thickness of the line in pixels (px).
- Margin. Allows you to add or remove space between the line and the edges of the guide step or neighboring building blocks. You edit the top, bottom, left, and right margins independently.
- Line Type. Allows you to choose between a solid, dotted, dashed, or double line.
