Adding a video to a guide lets you show visual demonstrations so visitors can quickly understand how to complete tasks or use features. Videos are especially helpful for showing workflows that are difficult to explain with text alone.
You can use videos to:
- Demonstrate how to complete a task step-by-step
- Introduce new features or product updates
- Provide onboarding walkthroughs
- Show examples of workflows or best practices
Video building blocks let you add videos using a direct upload or a URL from a supported platform. When using a URL, formatting is applied automatically and autoplay is turned off.
For more information about all building blocks, see Guide building blocks overview.
Prerequisites
To add a building block to a guide, you must have permission to create or edit guides.
Add a video
Choose a video, then add it to a guide step using building blocks.
- Go to Guides.
- Open the guide you want to edit.
- Select Edit in my app to open the Visual Design Studio.
- Select View steps, then choose the step you want to edit.
- Hover over the step you'd like to edit and select Edit step. If the step is blank, select Click to Add Content.
- To add a building block above or below an existing block, hover over the location where you want to add the block and select the Add Row plus (+) icon that appears.
- To add a text, button, or image building block to the left or right of an existing building block, hover over the building block and select the Add Column plus (+) icon that appears. You can edit the width of building block columns.
- From the Add Building Block menu, select Video.
Select a provider
When you add a video building block to your guide, the Edit Video Block window prompts you to choose a video provider and then enter a video URL.
Supported video providers
Video streaming providers typically support all browsers except Internet Explorer. Check the browser compatibility of your video platform.
Mobile guides support YouTube and Vimeo video URLs only. Web-based guides support all of the following video providers and URLs.
| Video format | URL details |
| Brightcove | Brightcove URLs must match the following format. Shortened video links don't work: http(s)://brightcove.net/account_id/player_type/index.html?videoId=[Video ID]
|
| Kaltura |
When sharing a Kaltura video, the ‘Direct link’ option won’t work for Pendo guides. Instead, follow these instructions to get a specific URL from the Embed option:
|
| Loom | http(s)://www.loom.com/share[Video ID] |
| Microsoft Stream (Classic) | http(s)://[Your Account ID].microsoftstream.com/video/[Video ID] |
| Microsoft Stream (on SharePoint) | http(s)://[OrgID].sharepoint.com/[NAMESPACE]/[USER_ID]/_layouts/15/embed.aspx?UniqueId=[Video ID] |
| Vidyard |
|
| Vimeo (public and unlisted) |
Use the URL provided in the address bar or with the share button: Supported for mobile guides. |
| Wistia |
Use the formats provided in the address bar or from the Embed & Share link:
|
| YouTube |
Use either of the following formats provided by YouTube in the address bar or with the share button:
Supported for mobile guides. |
Video size and ratio
When you add a video URL, you have two additional options for video sizing:
- Set video width. Allows you to set the width of the video in pixels (px).
- Fill container. Allows you to set the width of the video to the width of the guide step container.
You're also given the following two options for setting the aspect ratio of the video: 16:9 or 4:3.
Video accessibility
Add a descriptive name in Video Title so screen readers can identify and describe the video to visitors.
