View and manage tagged Pages

Last updated:

Pages are specific URLs or sections of your application that you've labeled or “tagged” based on defined rules. Tagging Pages allows you to track user interactions and understand how visitors navigate your application.

For instructions on how to tag Pages in the Visual Design Studio, see Page tagging.

View the Pages list

Your Pages overview gives you insight into where visitors are spending time in your application. It also provides a list of all the inherited pages from the partner and custom pages you've added on your own. To view your subscription’s list of tagged Pages, go to Product > Pages in the left-side menu. This opens the Overview tab of the Pages list page.

Filter and search your Pages

Use the filters and search bar above the Pages table to refine the list of Pages.

Filters_pages.png

You can filter your Pages by the following:

Filter Description
Segment The default is Everyone. Use the dropdown menu to select an existing segment or + Create New Segment at the bottom of the menu to create a new one.
Date range Use the dropdown menu to choose from predefined values, or choose a Custom Range for a specific time period.
Apps Use the dropdown menu to view your Pages by specific applications or all applications in your subscription.
Star icon Use the star icon next to the dropdown filters to only show Pages that you've favorited.
Search Search the table by Page name, description, or rules.
Product Areas Use the dropdown menu below the main filters to filter your Pages by specific Product Areas.

Your filters persist across most pages. For example, if you filter Pages by a single app and then go to Product > Features, only Features belonging to that app display until you change the app filter.

View available table columns

The Pages table lists all currently tagged Pages. Depending on the columns that you choose to include in this table, you can view the following information about all tagged Pages:

  • Name. The name assigned to this Page. For custom Pages, you can edit this in the Visual Design Studio or in the Page's details. Pages inherited from your partner can't be edited.
  • Description. Additional information about the Page. You can edit this in the Visual Design Studio or the Page's details page.
  • App. The application that the Page is assigned to. You can't edit this.
  • Product Area. The Product Area that the Page is assigned to, or “No Product Area” if none was assigned. You can edit this in the Visual Design Studio or the Page's details page.
  • Include rules. The include rules added to the Page, which define what URL patterns to capture. For custom pages, you can edit this in the Visual Design Studio or the Page's details page. Pages inherited from your partner can't be edited.
  • Exclude rules. The exclude rules added to the Page, which define what URL patterns to filter out of Page data. You can edit this in the Visual Design Studio or the Page's details page.
  • Page views. The total number of Page loads from all visitors within the segment and date range specified at the top of the page.
  • Number of visitors. The number of unique visitors who have generated an event on the Page within the segment and date range specified by the filters at the top of the page.
  • Time per day. The average time each day (in minutes) that visitors spend on the page.
  • Last updated by. The user who last updated the Page.
  • Last updated time. The date and time that the Page rules were last updated. Any modification to the Page rules revises the last updated time.
  • Created by. The user who originally tagged the Page.
  • Created time. The date and time that the Page was originally tagged.
  • Type. How the Page tag was created. Custom refers to tags that you and your team have created, Inherited refers to tags that were created by a parent account, and Inactive refers to inherited (pre-defined) tags that are no longer capturing data but can still be used for guides.
  • ID. The unique identification value for a specific Page. This is useful for API, Data Sync, and bulk update or delete requests.

Customize table columns

To customize your table columns, select the Manage columns (table) icon in the top-right corner of the table. In the modal that opens, you can add, remove, and reorder columns in the table.

Tip: Add the Include rules and Exclude rules to your table view to see what rules are behind the tags without having to open the details of each Page in the list. Reordering the columns and moving important information, such as Page views, to the beginning of the table can help reduce scrolling.

Download the Pages list

To download a comma-separated values (CSV) file of the data in your table of Pages, select the Download CSV icon in the top-right corner of the table.

Page identifiers

The Page's name, application, assigned Product Area, and description display in the top-left of the page. You can:

  • Select the Page name to modify the name. You can't modify inherited page names, only custom.
  • Assign a new Product Area by selecting the dropdown arrow next to the Product Area name.
  • Add a description or update an existing description by selecting the text that appears below the app and Product Area. The description must be 280 characters or less.

Actions

In the top-right corner of the page, you can:

  • Delete the Custom pages by selecting the trash icon. Inherited pages can't be deleted.

Warning: We don't recommend that you delete a Page, which might have guides associated with it or segments using the Page analytics. We recommend starting small and adding more Pages as needed.

  • Duplicate the Page by selecting the Clone Page icon.
  • Favorite the Page by selecting the star icon. You can also favorite it by selecting the star icon in the Pages list in Product > Pages.

Details

Select the Details component to minimize and expand this section. In this section, you can edit the Page rules and see who created and last updated the Page.

Metrics

Below the filters and details, the Key metrics section reviews the following based on your selected segment, date range, and account filters at the top of the page:

  • Unique visitors. Total number of visitors who loaded the Page in the specified date range.
  • Page views. Total number of times the Page was loaded in the specified date range.
  • Average time on Page per visitor. Average amount of time that visitors spent on this Page in the specified date range. Calculated by dividing the total number of minutes all visitors spent on the Page by the total number of unique visitors during that period.
  • Visitor adoption. Percentage of visitors who loaded the Page, calculated by dividing the total number of these visitors by the total number of active visitors in the application.
  • Visitor acquisition. Total number of new visitors who loaded this Page in the specified date range.

Area chart

Below these metrics, an area chart displays all Page views over the selected date range. Use the dropdown arrows in the chart title to modify the date range and data displayed.

Page_Area chart.png

In the first dropdown menu, select the frequency: Hourly, Daily, Weekly, or Monthly. These options vary depending on the date range selected at the top of the page. In the second dropdown menu, choose one of the following options:

  • Page views. Total number of times the Page was loaded within the selected date range.
  • Average time on Page. Average amount of time that visitors spent on this Page within the selected date range. Calculated by dividing the total number of minutes all visitors spent on the Page by the total number of visitors.
  • Visitors. Total unique visitors who loaded the Page within the selected date range.
  • Visitor adoption. Percentage of visitors who loaded the Page, calculated by dividing the total number of these visitors by the total number of active visitors in the application.

After selecting the data from the second dropdown menu, hover over a data point in the chart to view the associated data and trending information based on the previous data point. If the trending information is "N/A", this indicates that the previous value was zero.

At the top-right corner of the area chart, you can:

  • View in Data Explorer. Generate a pre-filled Data Explorer report to analyze the chart data. With this report, you can compare segments and date ranges, apply advanced filters, drill into visitor details, customize visuals, and save the report to a dashboard for ongoing insights.

Top parameters

If you're using parameterized URLs, the Top Parameters table lists the top 100 parameters associated with a specific Page rule and the number of Page views for each parameter. This table doesn't show if the Page isn't using parameterized URLs.

The Top Parameters table shows you which variations of the Page are most frequently accessed by users. You can select any parameter value in the table to open a details page for that specific parameter, which provides the same usage data available in the main Page's details. This includes metrics like total views, unique visitors, and trending view data, giving you a comprehensive view of how users interact with different variations of your page.

Top visitors

View the Top visitors who viewed the Page in the table below the area chart and top parameters. Select View all visitors to view a report that lists all associated visitors, which you can then export to a CSV file.

Features and guides assigned to this Page

Below the top visitors and accounts, two tables show Features and guides that are assigned to this Page based on configuration in the Visual Design Studio.

PageDetails_FeaturesGuidesTargeting.png

The Features targeting this Page table lists all Features tagged with this Page as their Page location in the Visual Design Studio. The table includes usage metrics for each Feature.

VDS_FeatureTagging_PageLocation.png

Tip: Select View in Data Explorer in the table to generate a report that includes all Features associated with this Page. This can help you identify and explore areas of potential friction.

The Guides targeting this Page table lists all guides with at least one step assigned to this Page as the Page Location when editing a guide’s location (not sitewide).

Event breakdown

At the bottom of the page, the Event breakdown table lists each unique combination of event properties associated with the visitors who loaded the Page. This means that if the same event properties are sent by the same visitor ten times, only one row of data populates with a Total Views count of 10. The quantity specified next to the table header represents the total number of unique event property combinations, rather than the total number of Page views.

This breakdown table contains up to 5,000 rows, and you can export the dataset to CSV by selecting the Download CSV icon.

You can modify the table columns by using the Manage columns icon in the top-right corner of the table.

Note: You can also view tagged Page details by selecting a Page from the list in the Visual Design Studio when it launches.

View untagged Pages

The Untagged URLs tab shows pages in your application that have detected activity but haven’t been tagged yet. Use this tab to identify pages you might want to tag. This lists all of the URLs where Page load events that didn't match any existing Page tagging rules within the last seven days.

To view Untagged URLs, from the left-side menu, go to Product > Pages and select the Untagged URLs tab.

Untagged URLs.png

The frequency with which the list updates depends on the number of events that your applications receive. The list of untagged URLs can refresh as frequently as every hour.

The Untagged URLs table shows the application, URL, number of page views, and last date and time each untagged URL was identified in a Page load event. You can choose to tag a URL as a Page or add the URL as a rule to an existing Page tag without opening the Visual Design Studio by selecting Tag URL in the table.

The timeframe for the list of untagged URLs depends on the subscription or application selection in the filter at the top of the page. This choice changes the start time for the Untagged URLs table because these can have different event rates.

For example, All Apps is likely to have a higher event rate than specific applications that you choose. To account for this, the timeframe for the Untagged URLs table when All Apps is selected starts from 168 hours in the past up to the present moment. When you select a specific application, the timeframe starts from 168 hours before the time of the last recorded event for that application. The maximum number of events queried for the Untagged URLs table is 2.5 million.

Note: Even if a particular server host or domain is part of the exclude list, untagged URLs from that environment still appear in the Untagged URLs section. This is expected behavior because data is still collected from those environments.
